FAIRTRADE FOOTBALLS

The Fairtrade group in Mid Formartine have been very proud of our local football club, Formartine Utd, who are arguably Scotland’s first Fairtrade club. They are stars.

But there is one problem in that the Scottish Football Association stipulate to them they must use a preselected approved ball as part of a national deal with suppliers.

We know that there is a Fairtrade standard for footballs which are stitched by hand, often in third world countries and a sometimes using child labor.

While we would like the SFA to adopt Fairtrade footballs as the approved ball for matches, this will require a national campaign.

But here is a video about Fairtrade footballs and the story behind them. We think you should watch it.

The mid Formartine Fairtrade Group would like to persuade local schools and those youth teams and junior footballers not obliged to use the SFA approved ball to use Fairtrade footfalls as their standard approved ball.

Let’s stamp out exploitative child labour and slave wages.
